my cozy kitchen cabinet

There’s nothing more warm and inviting than open shelving in the kitchen. Layers of unfussy goodness give the perfect amount of cozy. In the last few years home lovers everywhere have been taking down their traditional cabinets in favor of a wood ledge to hang their favorite plates and tchotchkes.

To hone in the cottage vibe, adding a cabinet will truly make the most of your collections. I was going back and forth between a vintage wood hutch or a new minimal white cabinet, and ultimately decided to go the new route since my rental kitchen is already 50 shades of wood. The Ikea Liatorp had exactly what I was envisioning, with the bead board backing! Since the Ikea here in Oakland is ALWAYS sold out of inventory I refreshed facebook marketplace about 50 times a day until one popped up.

I let the styling come together pretty organically. My curation of cups, china and crystal is already pretty mismatched as I never buy full sets of anything, which is key. Add in some books, coasters, candlesticks and your latest vintage finds and the layers will fall into place just right. There really are no rules here, the more the merrier.
